There will be an almost simultaneaous launch of the Insert ____ Here project (whats 4 days give or take?) in The Hague, Netherlands and Brooklyn, New York. Here are the mock up images of what the project could look like out in the world.

Insert Here - The Hague

The basic idea goes something like this:

1. Visitor walks into gallery (or other space, or could be a class of students creating the project)

2. Picks up a couple of “Insert ____ Here” signs, some affixative (made that word up), a black marker and the Idea Generator*

3. Goes out into the world and finds places where good things can happen to create a more sustainable neighborhood - plant a tree, bike lane, green roof, recycling bin, etc.

Insert Here - The Hague

4. Writes in the blank space of the “Insert____ Here” sign the remediation that would like to see in that location, i.e. “Insert green roof Here”

5. Takes a digital photograph of the sign.

6. Returns to gallery, hands back the black marker, unused signs and Idea Generator*.

7. Gallery has facilities to upload images, or person uploads on own.

8. Images are uploaded to flickr into the  “Insert Here” set and a caption with the requested remediation, i.e. green roofs. Image is also added to flickr maps.

9. Designers are invited to take the images and add a stylized version of the remediation. (A stylized green roof or bike lane). If you are interested in joining the design team, please email me at eve at insert - here dot org.

10. The remediation image is uploaded also to flickr with tags, and added to the map. The pair of images will be added to the Insert Here website.

11. Anyone who sees the sign out on the street can enter the unique url that is on each sign (i.e. “Insert ____ Here” www.insert-here.org/001)

Any questions?

*Idea Generator is a list of ideas to get people thinking about the neighborhood in an optimistic way. It has a list of different remediation tactics (a tree, porous pavement, green roof, solar panels, bike land, pocket park, etc) and the positive impact they can have on the environment and the best suited locations for them.
